📍 Destinations: Melbourne • Great Ocean Road • Yarra Valley

🕰️ Duration: 5 Days | ✈️ Arrival/Departure: Melbourne Airport (MEL)

💡 Ideal For: Art & coffee lovers, coastal road-trippers, wine connoisseurs & wildlife enthusiasts

Melbourne isn’t just a city—it’s an experience layered with culture, creativity, and cosmopolitan charm. Often dubbed Australia’s cultural capital, Melbourne is where Victorian-era architecture meets sleek skyscrapers, where hidden laneways brim with street art, boutique cafes, and indie fashion stores. The city’s love for art, music, and design is felt at every turn—from the National Gallery of Victoria to the vibrant arts precinct in Southbank.

Known for its world-class coffee scene, diverse global cuisines, and passion for sports, Melbourne manages to feel both globally connected and intimately local. Whether you’re soaking in skyline views from the Skydeck, hopping on a vintage City Circle Tram, or watching the city light up along the Yarra River, Melbourne welcomes you with a warm, stylish, and soulful embrace.

Day 1: Late Check-In & Cozy Christmas Vibes

After a long 14-hour journey from India, I arrived in Melbourne and checked into my hotel at 11:30 PM. Despite the fatigue, the festive ambience instantly lifted my spirits. The hotel lobby was bathed in twinkling Christmas lights, decked in wreaths and red ribbons, and the scent of cinnamon drifted from somewhere nearby—it felt like stepping into a holiday postcard.

From my room, I was welcomed by a serene skyline lit in gold. The city lights twinkled in sync with my excitement for the journey ahead. It was the perfect, peaceful beginning to my Australian Christmas adventure.

Day 2: Christmas Morning in the Heart of Melbourne

Waking up to a glorious skyline view, I pulled back the curtains and soaked in the beauty of Melbourne in daylight.

🎄City-hopping through Melbourne on Christmas Day – Festive & Playful

The energy of Christmas Day radiated through the streets—from bustling trams to carolers in the city square. I hopped on the City Circle Tram, which is free within the CBD on Christmas Day, and glided past Melbourne’s landmarks wrapped in holiday spirit. Federation Square, with its dazzling tree and street performers, was a highlight. 🎄

💡 Travel Tip: City trams in Melbourne’s Free Tram Zone operate free of charge—even on Christmas Day! An easy and budget-friendly way to explore the city.

Docklands on a Christmas Afternoon: Sun-Kissed Serenity by the Waterfront

Christmas afternoon at Docklands was a scene straight out of a festive postcard. The sun cast a golden glow over the calm waters of Victoria Harbour, while families strolled along the boardwalk, ice creams in hand and spirits high. Street performers brought bursts of energy, and the giant Christmas tree near The District added a playful touch of tradition to this sleek, contemporary space. It was the kind of afternoon where modern architecture met holiday warmth—laid-back, luminous, and full of joy.

Evening Christmas Vibes at Crown Melbourne: Where Festivity Meets Elegance

As dusk fell over Melbourne, Crown transformed into a glittering haven of holiday magic. The riverside promenade shimmered with reflections of festive lights dancing on the Yarra River, while the air buzzed with the hum of celebration. Inside, the grandeur of Crown Melbourne came alive—wreaths and twinkling ornaments adorned its opulent interiors, and live music floated through the corridors, adding to the warmth of the season. The casino pulsed with excitement, but it was the soft glow of the Christmas décor and the festive energy that truly stole the show—an unforgettable blend of glamour and holiday spirit in the heart of the city.

Day 3: Epic Road Trip Down the Great Ocean Road 🚗🌊

7:00 AM departure. Destination: Nature’s grandeur and I took some pictures of early morning in Melbourne.

This day was pure magic—an unforgettable drive along one of the world’s most scenic coastal routes: The Great Ocean Road. Here’s how the day unfolded:

🐨 Serendip Sanctuary

A peaceful coffee break amidst wildlife, where I spotted koalas and soaked in the serenity of Australian nature.

📍 Great Ocean Road Memorial Archway

The symbolic start of our scenic drive—a tribute to the soldiers who built this road post-WWI.

🌊 Torquay Back Beach

🌊Cape Patton Lookout

This is the highest point of the winding Great Ocean Road with sweeping views of the ocean, between Apollo Bay and Kennett river at @Wongarra. Perched on the rugged cliffs, this lookout is a real treasure that features breathtaking views of the Southern Ocean, Skenes Creek, turquoise waters, green hills, iconic rock, and surrounding countryside. The lookout is named after Major General Sir John Patton in 1920 during construction of the Great Ocean Road, serving as a tribute to World War I soldiers.

The vivid colours – bright sky, lush greenery and stunning turquoise ocean radiates joy and serenity.

🐚Apollo Bay

Waves crashing, sea breeze whispering, and nature putting on a show — @Apollo Bay was a soulful pause along the iconic Great Ocean Road, Melbourne, Australia . From morning walks by the ocean to sunset views that take your breath away, this little coastal town is where serenity meets scenic beauty. Forever cherishing the moments wrapped in salty air, cozy cafés, and the rhythm of the tides.

🌅 Loch Ard Gorge

The picturesque gorge is home to a smooth, pearlescent bay and an inlet of clear, blue water flanked by two yellow-washed sheer cliff faces. Named after the most famous shipwreck along the coast that took place in 1878 killing all the passengers and crews. The spectacular view is beyond description.

⛰️The Twelve Apostles

A four-and-a-half-hour drive from Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road. The Twelve Apostles may also refer to a rock formation in Australia which was originally called the Pinnacles, and was also known as the Sow and Piglets in reference to Mutton Bird Island nearby. The formation was officially named after the Twelve Apostles of Jesus in the 20th century.

Day 4: Markets, Cruises & Sky-High Views

🛍️ Queen Victoria Market

Christmas joy met global flavour at Queen Victoria Market, the largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere. Stalls brimmed with ornaments, local crafts, festive treats, and the spirit of community.

Drenched in joy… dipped in colours… this place was a riot of sights, sounds, and stories.”

🚢 Yarra River Cruise

From the gentle flow of the Yarra River, Melbourne’s skyline rises like a movie set—modern, majestic, and magnificent. I cruised along the Southbank, taking in the Crown Casino, art precincts, and the quiet romance of the river.

🏙️ Melbourne Skydeck – Level 88

Later, from 88 floors above, I saw the city in its full glory:

  • Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) – One of the world’s most famous sports stadiums.
  • Melbourne CBD (Skyscrapers, Flinders Street Station, and Federation Square) looking like a miniature palace
  • Southbank & Yarra River – The Crown Casino, arts precinct, and lively riverfront
  • Royal Botanic Gardens sprawling like an emerald blanket
  • MCG & AAMI Park, home to Aussie sports passion
  • Distant views of Dandenong Ranges, Mornington Peninsula, and the You Yangs on the horizon

It was a 360-degree love letter to Melbourne.
