My Incredible South East Asia Holidays – Kuala Lumpur Scenes

By Pamela Nandi | Jul 28, 2021

TIME OF VISIT: JANUARY

Kuala Lumpur, the federal capital and the largest city of Malaysia is a must-see destination, dominated by gleaming skyscrapers, home to British colonial architecture, charming locals, a myriad of natural attractions, a skyline punctuated by minarets and Mogul-style domes.

MY ARRIVAL: Bid farewell to Singapore during my leisure vacation in South-East Asia after an amazing holiday and headed to a lovely destination – Kuala Lumpur. Travelled from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur by luxury bus with a duration of 6.5 hrs. Checked in to my hotel in Kuala Lumpur during the afternoon.

TIPS: Boarded 24 or 48-hours valid hop-on hop-off ticket to spin around Kuala Lumpur by sightseeing bus to explore top attractions. Another cheapest way to explore Kuala Lumpur is by Monorail.

KLCC (Petronas Twin Towers)

Welcome to Malaysia’s proudest landmark and iconic structure – the Petronas Towers, or the Petronas Twin Towers. The twin glass-and-steel-clad skyscrapers with Islamic motifs ranked the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004.

KL Tower (Menara Kuala Lumpur)

A definite must for a visit to stop by the iconic Kuala Lumpur Tower and experience all the unique attractions it offers. A communications tower constructed in 1994, that features an antenna that increases its height to 421 metres.

China Town Central Market

The lively, colourful epicentre of Kuala Lumpur‘s Chinatown is the bustling Petaling Street, also known as ‘Chee Cheong Kai‘ (Starch Factory Street), a reference to its roots as a tapioca-producing district. A place of joy to explore the lively street markets with clothes, accessories, quirky art galleries, beautiful temples, stalls dished up with noodles and curry, cafes, hidden bars.

Definite must-visits to explore this historic district

Little India

Little India is a vastly different world near Brickfields District, a neighbourhood located on the western flank of central Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia‘s official biggest Little India where Indian residents have lived in this quarter for generations.

National Palace (King’s Residence)

The Istana Negara is the official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the monarch of Malaysia located in Segambut, northwestern Kuala Lumpur. Jalan Istana – the 13-acre castle used to be the official residence of the Yang.

Merdeka Square (Independence Square)

The square is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Literally Independence Square, it was formerly known as the Selangor Club Padang or simply the “Padang” and was used as the cricket green of the Selangor Club. A large grassy expanse in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, where Malaysia declared independence in 1957.

The colonial core of the capital city of Malaysia, Merdeka Square is undoubtedly KL’s best-known landmark
Also called Dataran Merdeka

Sarawak Cultural Village

One of Malaysia’s best-known and most iconic cultural attractions, a unique award-winning living museum showcasing the history of places.

Batu Caves

One of Kuala Lumpur‘s most prominent heritage sites of Malaysia is located in Gombak, Selangor (17 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur). Batu Caves is a limestone hill (originally known as Kapal Tanggang from the legend of Si Tanggang) comprising of three major cave temples and a number of smaller ones. It takes its name from the Malay word batu, meaning ‘rock’.

TIPS: Board the train from KL Sentral KTM Station to Batu Caves KTM Station. The total journey is about 40 minutes. For more details, please refer to this link.

Always wanted to take a slice of the vacation back home. Yes, a vacation is incomplete without indulging in some ‘retail therapy’ and that is shopping.
